Mount Masami
Masami isn't currently up right now, we've been trying to get things running for a few years, but something always comes up. However, recently, we decided to get the team back together and get this puppy going. Currently, we're adding some new ideas in and reintroducing old ones. We should be up and running within a few weeks. If you're interested, feel free to roam Masami while we get things set up, or maybe you could even join and give us some feedback on what you'd like to see. Thank you so much for your patients and we're very very sorry!

Character Name: Krypt (Last name unknown)
Character Age: 16
Gender: Male
Email: See profile

Description:

Krypt is a ruffian from the streets of the US, traveling around with no real home. Because of this, he's an exceptional brawler even if he doesn't pay attention to the unspoken rules of conflict 100% of the time. He's got short, spiky black hair, piercing green eyes, and a fearlessly cautious attitude. He wears gloves to assist him when climbing over buildings and a belt to store all his personal items. He's tall for his age, and has a physique that would rival that of some professional athletes.

Krypt has the unique ability to know when to play it safe, even if he doesn't always pay it any heed. He tends to watch and not wait, preferring to be in the heat of the moment. He always follows his gut instinct, as it's kept him alive for most of his life. His restless demeanor causes him to wander into situations that he shouldn't be able to get out of; yet he always does. He knows who his friends are and exactly which of them he can afford to throw under the bus.

History:

Never knowing his parents, Krypt was raised on the streets of the big city. He spent his days free-running, thieving, and keeping out of gangs ever since they'd tried to sexually abuse him at the age of three. Since then, he's kept to himself and only trusted a few people. His first theft that wasn't food or clothing consisted of a $100 swiss army knife, which he now considers his most valuable possession.

Kyrpt's family life remains a mystery, even his name. He chose to be called "Krypt" after hiding in a cemetery crypt during a tornado that killed 67 people. He sees no reason for a last name, and so doesn't put the effort into finding one. Police across the country have tried multiple times to wrangle him in, to no avail. He uses their tie to protocol to outwit them at every turn. Even though Krypt has never had any formal education, he still is extremely intelligent. He might not be able to pass a single written test, but he's passed every examination that the world has thrown at him and has no intention of stopping.

Role Play:

"Get... back... here... you... Ruffian!" shouted the fat cop behind him. Krypt laughed wildly and increased his speed. He heard the wheezing breath of the officer dwindling behind him and ducked into an alleyway. From there, he silently mounted one of the fire escapes and tiptoed along the roof. Creeping to the edge, he watched as the cop reached the alleyway and peered in. Four police cars skidded around the corner and pulled to a stop.

"Where'd he go?" asked another cop as he hopped out of the cruiser. The fat officer wheezed and pointed weakly down the alley. Krypt giggled silently from his vantage point on the rooftop. He continued to be entertained by the mass of blue bloods swarming the alley like lost ants. After a few minutes however, he felt himself growing bored and straightened. Urging himself to walk quickly yet quietly over the rooftop. He reached the edge of the roof and took a standing leap across the gap.

"I love Chicago," he thought as he jumped across another building to one with a sloped roof. "It makes free-running so much easier." He traversed a few more buildings before deeming that he was far enough away from the cops to risk coming down. Locating the nearest fire escape, he made his way back to street level. Once on the ground, Krypt headed for his temporary home in Millennium Park.

He neared the park just as the sun was setting. Avoiding the main entrance, he circumnavigated the wall and scaled it farther on. Dropping lightly to the ground like a cat, he found the tree he'd made home and shimmed up it's broad trunk. Emerging into the branches, Krypt reached into one of the back pockets of his utility belt. From it, he withdrew a tightly folded package. He unfolded it and donned the warm sweatshirt that had been hiding within. Now protected from the harsh Chicago night, he settled in to enjoy the sun setting over the lake.

As the last rays of the sun sparkled off the water, Krypt withdrew from another pouch his prize for the day. It was a small round piece of wood, carved through with various symbols. A hole in the center suggested that it could have at one time been a type of jewelry or something. That of course, was none of Krypt's business. He knew a collector that loved this sort of thing and wouldn't ask unnecessary questions. He held up the circular piece of wood to the sun's last ray; an idea he immediately regretted when the beam hit him directly in the eye and blinded him. His vision took a long time to return, much longer than it should have. When he was finally able to blink his eyes open again he found himself staring at the tail of a deer.

"Deer shouldn't be out this time of night," he mumbled to himself. He propped himself up with his hands, finding the task difficult on the moving sand. "Sand?" he spoke aloud. He jumped up in alarm, only to witness a half man-half goat creature whose rear end he'd mistook for a deer flee into the sparse out-lands of a forest. Turning, Krypt saw nothing but sheer desert stretching far beyond him in all directions. He looked back at the sparse forest and allowed his mind to jump to the only conclusion it could reach. "Is this," he asked himself loudly for the comfort of a familiar sound, "Narnia?"

OOC: You are fantastic at this, Krypt, especially for having just started out. I did fix a few mathematical problems on your stats, but nothing to major.

---

It was a cool night in Masami's deserts, and deep within the tunnels of the Nova Base, Amaterasu was meditating on all that had happened to her. Why was I brought here, she pondered. Nearby, the brilliantly colored Aether sat preening his feathers with care. Ami was fiddling around with her staff, trying to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together, when she suddenly felt a disturbance in the air she hadn't felt since she was taken to Masami. She turned to Aether with a blaze in her eyes. 'Did you feel that? I think someone else came through to Masami. We have to go help!'

The phoenix replied very nonchalantly 'If you must, hurry up, because there's a sandstorm brewing, and it will be here soon.' Ami nodded and picked up her bo staff and headed towards the base's enormous doors. Aether called after her 'If you get in trouble, just whistle! I'll be there in a matter of seconds.' The black-haired continued out the door and into the chilly night. The sand rolled over her sandals, filling them and then emptying them with every step.

Amaterasu trekked towards the spot she felt the most powerful disturbances, and after a few minutes, she saw a shape running towards her. 'Hello? Are you Ok?' Amaterasu soon realized that the silhouette was not a human, but of a sort of goat-man, who pushed past her and knocked her to the ground. She picked herself up and dusted herself off. She looked off in the distance and knew there wasn't much time left. The winds had started to pick up, and she had to cover her mouth with cloth to prevent from swallowing the sand.

Ami continued forward and saw another shape, lurching through the now roaring winds. 'Hey! You! We need to leave now! There's a sandstorm coming!' Ami screamed at the top of her lungs, unknowing if the person had heard her. She tried running towards the figure, but the sand shifted out from under her and she fell to the sand once more. She carefully pulled herself and whistled sharply, and jumped at the projection of the sound. She didn't know if anyone had heard her, but hopefully Aether was on his way. She looked back to see a massive cloud of sand rushing towards them. She rushed to the best of her ability over to the figure, who she now could see as a scruffy looking boy.

'We need to go! Follow me if you want to live!' She shouted. Amaterasu hoped she got the boys attention, because she needed to leave. In the darkness, she spotted a bright red figure streak towards them. 'Aether! Come on, we're leaving!' The phoenix swooped down to the ground and continued gliding back to the base, leading the duo to safety of the Nova Base. Amaterasu closed her eyes and prayed that they'd make it.

OOC: Thanks. It's so weird to not be writing for all the characters but I can see this'll be a lot of fun.

Paragraph Count: 5

Krypt squinted in the growing storm at the figure charging towards him out of the darkness. He could hear sounds coming from it's direction, but couldn't make out if they were words through the howling winds. He coughed, his lungs burning with the sand that choked the air. A shrill whistle pierced the raging sand. Krypt looked up and could just barely make out a black-haired girl approaching him.

"We need to go!" she shouted at him, her words almost lost amid the winds, "Follow me if you want to live!" The girl gripped a long pole of wood and turned her eyes to the sky. Krypt cast his gaze upwards in time to see a flying, fiery mass streaking towards them. "Aether! Come on, we're leaving!" the girl screamed. She began following the creature in the sky.

Krypt struggled to his feet. "Wait..." he tried to speak, but his throat was too clogged with sand. Forcing himself to put one foot in front of the other, he followed the girl and the fiery sky being. He went three paces and stopped to check his utility belt. Everything was still there, even the strange wooden disk. Shaking his head to dispel the sand from his hair, he continued after the girl.

Viability was horrible. Two minutes after starting out after the girl he lost all sight of her. The only thing he could make out was the diluted glow of the thing in the sky. He turned his head upwards to check the creature's direction and tripped over his own feet. What's going on here? he wondered as he yanked his head out of the suffocating sands. One minute I'm in a Chicago tree, the next I'm in a desert following fire in the sky! He pulled himself to his feet and gazed upwards to search for the living beacon, trying to shield his eyes from the gritty sand.

His body screaming at him in protest, Krypt pressed onward. He could just barely make out a glimmer of light in the sky which he hoped was the creature and not a bright star or the moon. Where am I? he couldn't help but thinking. The lapse in concentration sent him tumbling forwards again. Shut up and keep walking. he told himself angrily. He placed his foot in front of him to lever himself up and found nothing waiting to support it. With a shout of panic that did nothing to challenge the rampaging forces of nature, he tumbled off the cliff face.

Amaterasu looked behind her to make sure that the boy was still following her, but the storm was turning horrible. She saw his figure walking off in the wrong direction, than tumble and disappear. She whistled and ran off in that direction, feeling the sand flowing towards the impending cliff edge. She saw Aether do a U-Turn and follow her towards the area where the sand was falling. Ami shoved her bo into the sand and vaulted over the edge, bringing her arms to her side and falling straight down.

Amaterasu struggled to see as sand flew into her eyes, making it impossible. She was forced to close her eyes and hope she would survive. The second she closed her eyes, though, she suddenly had a new view of the world, everything in different shades of black with a small white figure ahead of her. She have any way to explain it, but she knew it was the boy. Ami pulled her arms even tighter in and sped faster toward the figure. She quickly reached him, and not knowing what else to do, clutched onto him for dear life as the two plummeted down to near certain demise.

Amaterasu didn't remember anything past that, all she knew is she awoke to the noon sun in a large pile of sand, buried from the waste down by a trickle of sand coming from above. She opened her mouth to speak, but her throat was full of sand, and she found herself coughing horribly. She rolled over onto her back, out of the pile of sand and stared at the sky for a moment before the pile shifted again, sending her tumbling down the hill. She hit a rock painfully and flew through the air, landing on another dune. She carefully got to her feet and located her staff a few feet away. She went and got it, and realized she was alone. 'Hello? Aether? Anyone? Friend, where did you go? Are you alright?'

Paragraph Count: 5

Krypt teetered on the edge then tumbled down the cliff face. The sand flew up his nostrils and into his ears. Coughing and spluttering, he again heard the whistling sound. A faint light off to his right side grew brighter and he could only assume that the winged beast of fire was returning. This ain't any different from the time off the Empire State Building. he told himself. Of course, that time he'd been able to see how close the ground was.

A heavy weight plowed into his side. He twisted and saw the girl that had approached him earlier. "What the heck are you doin'!" he yelled at her. She didn't seem to hear him. Sighing, Krypt resigned himself to the fact that now he had two bodies he had to save. The fire beast didn't seem to be any closer either. Shifting so that he once again faced the ground, Krypt tried his hardest to make out the ground that he knew was rushing up towards them.

After what seemed like 10 hours of falling; something flew past them, almost taking Krypt's ear off. He could just make out the girl's staff as it whizzed by. A faint clattering noise told him they weren't far from the ground. Acting quickly, he looped his legs around the girl's waist to make sure he didn't lose her and removed his sweatshirt. He tied the arms together with a piece of twine from his belt. Glancing back down, he could just make out the rocky crags below. He let the girl go and the makeshift parachute immediately took effect. He watched her float violently away on the strong wind before rolling himself in a ball and bracing for impact.

His body hit the sand, which moved to absorb the impact. Krypt stood up slowly, checking to make sure nothing was broken. Overhead, he made out the figure of the girl floating down to the ground unharmed. Trudging over to her landing place, Krypt removed his jacket and twine. He tucked both items back into their respective pouches, his fingers brushing the shape of the wooden medallion.

With a snort, he checked to progress of the flying fire monster. It was heading his way fast. He gave the girl one last look, her black hair already turned brown with sand. You can barely take care of yourself. he chided. Leave her to the creature. They're obviously friends. He trudged through the sand, away from where the girl awaited her flaming rescuer. He didn't stop once to look back, and even if he had, he wouldn't have been able to see the girl under the pile of sand that covered her body.

Paragraph Count: 7

Krypt trudged through the seemingly endless sands. The storm had finally stopped awhile ago, leaving the night clear and crisp. He'd replaced his sweatshirt over his body to keep out the cold desert moon. He tipped his head back, neck protesting at the action, to gaze at the moon. It was so much brighter than the one back home. What would you know about home? he asked himself. Still, his instinct told him that this wasn't the same place as the Chicago tree he'd been ready to snooze in earlier.

Before he lowered his eyes from the heavens, he caught the sight of multiple floating landmasses placed sporadically in the sky. A silhouette flew briefly in front of the moon; it was shaped like a horse, but it had wings and was flying. Now I know that I need to get to sleep. I'm seeing flying horses! Lowering his eyes, Krypt put forth his energies into scanning the horizon for anywhere that he could hole up for the night.

In the distance, he thought he could make out a small object pointed straight up in the air. With no reason not to, Krypt headed for it. He'd gone just a few more yards when he caught sight of a tree staring at the moon. Excited at the prospect of variation in the desert landscape, he began to race towards it. The tree seemed to grow farther and farther away; Krypt could feel his lungs burning and his throat was on fire. "Stop!" he cried out to the tree. Almost as if it had heard his plea, the distance between the boy and the plant shortened to nothing.

Krypt's face made an unhappy acquaintance with the tree's trunk. "Sweet alien monkey turds!" he shouted. He felt a warm liquid running down his face. He spit out blood from his mouth, spattering the tree with drops of red. Placing his hand on the trunk, he staggered around the tree to witness a small oasis pool in front of him. Kneeling, he stuck a finger into the water and licked it experimentally. It was sweet and clear. Greedily, he took huge gulps of the life-giving liquid.

Krypt plunged his nose into the pool and let the cold numb his nosebleed into submission. Standing, he took a few steps back from the pool. He leaned against the tree and slowly slid down it's rough trunk. Once his rear had reached the point where roots met sand, he took a deep breath and decided to asses his situation. He slid his hands through the pockets on his utility belt. He was even less prepared than he'd realized. Casting a cautious glance around him, he undid his belt and tipped the contents onto the ground. As he replaced them in the pouches he made mental notes of what was there.

The first object he placed back in the belt was his small water-skin. He stuffed the empty skin into one of the larger pockets, figuring he could fill it up the next morning. Quickly, he grabbed his rubber-band ball as it started to roll away and put it back into a pocket as well. His lock-picking set and swiss army knife went into another pocket. The lengthy piece of twine was also carefully replaced into a pocket. He was wearing his sweatshirt. A crusty piece of bread lay on the sands. His stomach rumbling, he snatched it and swallowed it in three bites. Turning his attention back to the sands to make sure he hadn't missed anything, his eyes landed on the odd circular piece of wood. He picked it up and studied it, carefully avoiding angling it to catch the moons rays. If this thing got me here, he thought, Then it might be able to help me get back.

Shrugging, he placed the circle into it's pocket gently. I'll head out tomorrow. I'll figure this out alone, just like I always have. He returned the utility belt to his waist where it belonged. Snuggling back against the tree, he gave the area one last sweep to check for danger and let his eyes fall closed in much needed sleep.

Krypt - Wanderer Empty Re: Krypt - Wanderer

Post  Krypt Sun Dec 04, 2011 8:32 pm

A loud rumbling sound brought Krypt back into wakefulness. The morning desert sun burned through his sweatshirt. With a groan, he ripped of the heavy garment and stuffed it back into his belt. The sun burned brightly as though to make up for it's absence the night before. The rumbling noise persisted. Krypt pushed himself up from the ground using the tree as a support. Thankful that his bangs shielded his eyes from the harsh sunlight, he peered off into the distance.

At first, all he could make out was a dust cloud. Then he realized it was getting closer. The thunderous rumbling assaulted his ears. The enormous dust cloud grew larger and shadowy figures began to appear at it's head. What, in the name of Captain Crunch's big poofy hat, are those? he wondered. The figures quickly closed the ground between them and Krypt. Are those... pigs?

The horde of pigs lurched towards him. With a second of panic-induced-paralysis Krypt ducked behind the tree he'd leaned against last night. The dust cloud grew, bearing it's creators with it. A voice floated out above the sound of hooves. "Get along liddle piggies! Cum on me fine feathered bovines!" Krypt could make out a shape hovering above and behind the herd of pigs. What is that? was all he had time to think before the wall of moving pork was upon him.

He held the trunk of the tree tightly with both hands to avoid being ripped off into the swarm of stampeding pink that surrounded him. His tough gloves were the only things preventing the trunk from ripping off the palms of his hands. He clamped his eyes closed to shield them from the sand being kicked up by the stampede. "Y'all look like yur in a bita a pickle there," the voice he'd heard earlier spoke. He opened his eyes wide enough to squint and beheld a large river otter. Only it was flying above the stampede using bat-like wings and wore a cowboy hat perched back on it's head. Krypt closed his eyes again.

"Aw cum on now," the otter soothed, "I ain't gonna bite ya." Krypt felt the pressure of the pigs somehow increase. His fingers slipped on the trunk. "AHHHH!" he screamed. The otter sighed, stuck a paw into it's mouth, and gave a clear, loud, shrill whistle. Immediately the mass of writhing bodies around Krypt settled. He opened his eyes in shock. The otter hovered over him on his unnatural bat wings that Krypt could now make out as being covered in a brown peach fuzz along everything except the membrane. It held out it's paw, "Well mow me down and call me a piece of grass, yur a human ain't ya?" Warily, Krypt accepted the paw and was assisted with an unexpected amount of strength.

"Thanks," Krypt muttered. He gazed around at the herd of pigs wallowing in the oasis. Only now that they were all mostly still did he realize something he hadn't noticed before. "Do those pigs have wings?!"

The otter's face broke into a beaming smile. "That's right. These here are the finest aviation able porkers in all o' Masami." He performed a back flip in the air without losing his cowboy hat and cast his gaze over his herd. "Name's Tagg, who're ya?" Tagg questioned.

Krypt gave the otter the once-over. "Krypt," he answered curtly. With a cautious curiosity he ventured a question of his own, "You mentioned Masami. Where's that?"

"Why ya don' know do ya? Then again, 'ow could ya? You bein' a human an' all," Tagg took off his cowboy hat and wrung it in his hands nervously. "Well first o' all, ya gotta aksept that yur not on Earth no more."

"WHAT!" shouted Krypt. He gave the otter a scathing look, "How can I not be on Earth? I didn't get on a space ship. I didn't go through any closets in large buildings owned by old relatives I didn't know. And there were no chanting women with warts on their long, pointed noses!" Krypt stopped, out of breath. The otter sunk a few more inches under Krypt's stern glare.

"I don' know much 'bout Earth," Tagg started slowly, "But I reckon I do know a thin' or two 'bout Masami. Not just the mainlan' either. I know plenty 'bout Mount Masami too." He took a deep breath and maneuvered out of Krypt's arm reach. "Mount Masami's a giant mountain. floatin' high up in the sky above the rest o' Masami. There're other floatin' islan's too, but Mount Masami's the biggest one."

"Let me get this straight," Krypt interrupted, "I'm on a floating mountain. Above a planet that's not Earth. And there are other floating islands that are probably as full of opportunities to fall off of as this one is?"

"Looks like ya got it down lickity split," Tagg replaced his hat on his head. "An' to think I was worried that the firs' ever human I'd met was gonna be angry for bein' on Masami." He noticed the look on Krypt's face. "Ya ain't mad are ya?"

"Let me answer your question with a question," Krypt offered. Tagg indicated for him to continue. "Are there co... police officers here?" Tagg tilted his head to one side questioningly. Krypt continued in earnest, "And are there people who can punish you for doing something 'wrong'," he added finger quotes for effect. The look on Tagg's face became even more puzzled. Krypt took a deep breath before asking the last of his questions, "And are there any schools, or people that try to keep you held back?" He waited breathlessly for the answer.

"Earth must be a right odd place for all them who-ha words to mean sumtin'," Tagg shook his head. "Nun o' those thin's exist here far as I know." Krypt fist-pumped the air in excitement. Until Tagg started talking again, "Well, there's a group o' humans over near Demon Trees an' Cherry Forest. They don' like it when yur doin' sumtin' wrong."

"Whoa whoa whoa," Krypt took a step back and stepped on a pig's tail. It squealed and moved away. "This place isn't all desert? There are other people here besides that weird girl I met? And I forgot something. YOU CAN TALK AND FLY?!"

"Look, I hate to cut this short," Tagg started, "But I gotta get these here pork-chops ta their wintur groun's. Forest looks bea-utiful this time o' year." Tagg's face lit up, "Say! I've nev'r met a human before, ya don' know much 'bout Masami yet. Why don' ya cum wit me. I could use the help. Plus ya don' wanna be in this part o' the mountain once it decides ta snow. No cov'r see?" Tagg flew up and checked that his herd hadn't wandered too far away. Coming back down to a conversational level with Krypt, he continued, "Whadda ya say?" Tagg held out a paw.

Krypt looked down at the proffered appendage then back up at the nervously hopeful face of it's owner. Casting his sight past the otter, he looked in all directions. There's no way I'm gonna get out of this desert alone. Like it or not, I've gotta go with the crazy, flying, cowboy otter. Out loud he proclaimed, "I'd love to travel with you and help you with the flying pigs." He took the paw and shook it warmly.

Tagg's face broke out into a smile. His wings propelled him high into the air for a celebratory barrel roll, "Yeah doggie! Listen up there boys!" he called back down to the pigs, "Krypt here's gonna cum with us. So lets saddle up an' move on out!" He gave another whistle and the pigs all started moving steadily the way they'd been headed before coming across the oasis. Tagg fluttered next to Krypt, "Good ta have ya partner." The otter flew after his herd. Krypt yanked out his water skin and quickly dunked it in the oasis to fill it before following them. If I ever get out of here, he thought, I'm never going to read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe again. The party trudged across the still seemingly endless desert, stepping farther and farther away from the oasis that had brought them together.
